As part of the William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series—Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation’s signature event—bestselling author Hernan Diaz will give a talk on the Case Western Reserve University campus. Diaz’s talk will be held Thursday, March 7, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Maltz Performing Arts Center.
Hernan is a Hispanic author who was born in Argentina, moved to Sweden as a child, but moved back to Argentina, where he grew up until he moved to the United States in his twenties. He often speaks of the ‘foreignness’ he gained from his formative years. “Foreignness” is the central theme in his first novel, In The Distance, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner award.
His second novel, Trust, published in 2022, received the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and was a New York Times bestseller. Former President Obama listed Trust as one of his favorite books of 2022. Trust is also currently being developed into a limited series on HBO.
