Weatherhead’s J.B. Silvers notes that the recent closing of area pharmacies may be part of a larger trend

WEWSJ.B. Silvers, the Albert J. Weatherhead III Professor of Management at Weatherhead School of Management, noted that the recent closing of area pharmacies may be part of a larger trend. “The margins are pretty small. The average retail margin [for pharmacies] is like 2 percent,” he said, adding that financial struggles within the pharmacy industry have been years in the making as some companies expanded too quickly and faced competition from big box stores.
