No small change: FirstMerit’s proposed sale could have impact beyond banking
The Akron Beacon Journal: William Mahnic, associate professor of banking and finance, explained how deeply Akron will feel the closing of FirstMerit Bank, noting that many corporations seek out cities with bank headquarters when picking a location. “So if I’m a company choosing between Columbus and Akron, Columbus now gets the edge because that’s where the bank headquarters is,” he said.
