Weatherhead School’s Scott Shane, Susan Helper and David Clingingsmith call for a federal czar to ramp up medical-supply production

Weatherhead School of Management’s Scott Shane, the A. Malachi Mixon III Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies; Susan Helper, the Frank Tracy Carlton Professor of Economics; and David Clingingsmith, an associate professor of economics collaborated on a piece for the Washington Center for Equitable Growth.

In their article, “The President Must Appoint a COVID-19 Czar to Ramp Up Production of Medical Supplies,” they analyzed the need for federal intervention over COVID-19, writing that the virus: “presents the gravest threat in generations to the health and well-being of Americans. … To address this, President Trump must appoint a COVID-19 czar to use federal powers to direct the production of [needed medical supplies] … which help prevent cross-contamination.”
