Want to learn how to use group work in the classroom? Attend Thursday’s UCITE session

At a University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE) session in June, four faculty members who had been part of the Active Learning Fellows program—Rebecca Benard (biology), Megan Holmes (Mandel School), Kurt Rhoads (civil engineering) and Genevieve Sauve (chemistry)—shared their experiences with successfully using the flipped classroom model.

The session generated a huge amount of interest, but the presenters ran out of time to discuss an integral element of such active learning classrooms: how to get students to work well with one another in small groups.

To primarily address that particular issue (and any other issues involving the flipped classroom that might arise) the faculty members will return to present another UCITE session. They will address key questions related to group work, including:

  • How they formed groups
  • How the groups were used
  • How they assessed group work
  • What their successes and problems were
  • What they might do differently next time around based on their experiences

The session will be held Thursday, July 16, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Herrick Room of the Allen Memorial Medical Library (use the Adelbert Road doors).

Pizza, sodas and water will be provided at this session. RSVP to ucite@case.edu.
