The walkway between the Kent Hale Smith Building and the Schmitt Auditorium will be closed to pedestrian traffic for the next two to three months.
During this time, underground steam pipes will be replaced. Digging began July 15. Next, the pipes will be measured, new ones will be ordered and then they will be installed.
While the pipes are on order, the sidewalk will be open; this is expected to take about six to eight weeks. The sidewalk will be closed again once work begins to install the new pipes.
When the closure is in effect, the area will be blocked off.
