About Lake View Cemetery

Founded in 1869, Lake View Cemetery is one of the largest and most beautiful garden cemeteries in the United States. Modeled after the Victorian garden cemeteries of France and England, Lake View is filled with dramatic natural landscapes, artful plantings, and carefully curated monuments. It was designed as a retreat for the living – open to all walks of life – to reconnect with the beauty and healing qualities of nature.

Luminaries of Cleveland’s past, such as Jeptha H. Wade; President James A. Garfield; John L. Severance; Frances Payne Bolton, and Carl B. Stokes join more than 114,000 others laid to rest here. Lake View is also home for two buildings listed on the National Register for Historic Places:  The James A. Garfield Memorial and the Wade Memorial Chapel.
