Suzanne Rivera, vice president for research and assistant professor in the Department of Bioethics, is the co-editor of a new book published by MIT Press titled Specimen Science: Ethics and Policy Implications.
Other co-editors for the book are Holly Fernandez Lynch, Barbara Bierer and I. Glenn Cohen.
In the book, which includes contributions from Rivera and Associate Professor of Bioethics Aaron Goldenberg, experts offer legal, regulatory and ethical perspectives on balancing social benefit and human autonomy in biospecimen research.
This edited volume stems from a 2015 conference, a collaboration between The Center for Child Health and Policy at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital; the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School; the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center of Harvard and Brigham and Women’s Hospital; and Harvard Catalyst | The Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Center.
