University Compliance office urges CWRU community to recognize and report privacy issues

Protecting privacy is the right thing to do, always. The University Compliance office strives to support the campus community by keeping an eye out for improper privacy disclosures or potential disclosures. The private data of our students, staff, faculty, alumni, and contractors is of the utmost importance.

To keep private information private and used properly, it is the responsibility of all of us to recognize and notify. Recognize the risk, the problem, the missing item, etc., then notify compliance ASAP.

Examples of what should you report:

  • A lost, stolen or misplaced CWRU phone or laptop containing university data.
  • An email containing grade information sent to the incorrect student.
  • A student replies all to an email with their personal information.
  • An improperly sent email containing health/benefit/social security information of staff/faculty.

All members of the Case Western Reserve University community are urged to recognize and notify in a timely manner. Even if it seems small, it is better to report. More information can be found on the data breach response procedures website.

Questions, comments and concerns can be directed to compliance@case.edu. Report to the Integrity Hotline.
