Underground Railroad Historic Marker Dedication

The university community is invited to celebrate freedom and history at Case Western Reserve University through spoken word and song as the newest historic marker on our campus is dedicated.

This fall, the university installed a Historic Underground Railroad Site marker just outside the Allen Memorial Medical Library on the corner of Adelbert Road and Euclid Avenue.

One side of the plaque recognizes the role Western Reserve College, then located in Hudson, Ohio, played in the anti-slavery movement.

The other side honors Horatio Cyrus and Martha Cozad Ford, whose home served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. The land the home stood on later became part of the university’s campus when it relocated to Cleveland.

The Underground Railroad Historic Marker Dedication will be held Sunday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. at Amasa Stone Chapel.

A reception will follow.

This event is open to all. RSVP is requested and available online.
