The Social Justice Institute invites first-year students, sophomores and juniors to apply for the Social Justice Scholars reading group.
Over the course of the upcoming fall semester, the group’s focus will center on a complete account of American history and how science is defined. Selected participants will read and discuss two books: Clint Smith’s How the Word is Passed and Max Liboiron’s Pollution is Colonialism. The students will receive the books and any subsequent readings as well as a $250 stipend for their full participation.
Accepted applicants will be responsible for reading all assigned materials and attending five planning and discussion sessions. The sessions will be held during the Community Hour, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., on five Fridays: Sept. 9, Sept. 23, Oct. 14, Oct. 28, and Nov. 18.
