UCITE session: “Using Scalar to Author Digital Materials”

Faculty eager to learn easier ways to present scholarly information have an opportunity today to learn from one of their own, Department of English lecturer Kristine Kelly.

Kelly, who teaches a class on experimental narratives and new media, will introduce an free web publishing platform called Scalar at noon today (June 23) in the Allen Memorial Library’s Herrick Room. The session is part of the programming of the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE).

Developed at the University of Southern California, Scalar allows users to create digital projects that include their own writing as well as other content—images, videos and audio clips—to enhance understanding and engage viewers. Even better, Scalar’s developers specifically designed the platform to enable even those with minimal digital expertise to build dynamic and engaging projects.

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop and set up an account on Scalar before the session.

Pizza and sodas will be provided.
