The deadline for the Office for Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity’s 2016 Train the Champion program has been extended through Friday, Jan. 8, for individuals who were unable to complete their applications by the end of the year.
Train the Champion is designed to help Case Western Reserve University faculty, staff and administrators become leaders in creating a more welcoming and inclusive campus environment.
The program begins in January and concludes in November with a graduation ceremony. Program participants meet monthly during 90-minute lunchtime sessions to explore various aspects of diversity.
Session topics include race; religion; generational differences; the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community; disability issues; and others.
Since it launched in 2011, former participants have given the program high praise, describing it as valuable and transformative.
“Train the Champion has been a wonderful experience that I am using to continuously challenge myself and others around me,” said Class of 2015 graduate Richard Pazol, associate director of University Counseling Services.
The breadth of the workshops also added to its strength, said Class of 2014 graduate Sarah S. Andrews, senior instructor and director of social work in the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences.
Each year, about 25 individuals are selected to participate in the program. All CWRU faculty, administrators and staff are strongly encouraged to apply.
