Track & field team finishes season strong at NCAA championships

Junior Erin Hollinger led the way for the Case Western Reserve University track & field program with a fourth-place finish in the high jump at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning her All-American honors in the event for the second time in her career (she was also an outdoor All-American in 2009).

Four Spartan student-athletes competed at the three-day event hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

Senior Justine Jeroski, an All-American during cross country season, finished 16th in the 5,000-meter event with a time of 18:08.69.

Junior Ty Shaffer, the 2011 University Athletic Association champion in the 400m hurdles, placed 17th in the 400m hurdles preliminary race on Thursday night in his first taste of national competition. Classmate Matt Jurcak, also competing at the national level for the first time, placed 11th overall in Friday’s 110m hurdles prelims.
