With July comes long days, summer fun, and rising temperatures. One way to stay cool is to indulge in ice cream and, here in Cleveland, there are plenty of places to grab a sweet treat. On Wednesdays in July, we’ll take you on a tour of some local favorites.
The third stop on our tour of Cleveland’s ice cream shops takes us back to Ohio City. Tucked onto a residential street, Mason’s Creamery (4401 Bridge Ave.) serves up a rotating menu of flavors—both classic and unique—including turtle brownie, chocolate swiss roll and honey cornbread. In addition to cones, customers can try out egg waffles, ice cream sandwiches, churros, shakes, floats and affogato (ice cream with espresso).
But you’re not limited to sweet treats at Mason’s Creamery. The shop also serves up ramen (with pork, chicken and mushroom broth bases) during the winter months.
Mason’s Creamery was founded by Jesse Mason and Helen Qin following their move to the area from Los Angeles. Initially a mobile business that made stops around the city, Mason’s Creamery evolved when Mason and Qin took over a former ice cream shop in the neighborhood, renovating it into a trendy spot for small-batch ice cream.
Want to try Mason’s Creamery out for yourself? Take the RTA’s Red Line from campus to the Ohio City stop. From there, it’s a .8 mile walk to the ice cream shop. This route takes approximately 48 minutes from campus. Alternatively, you can take the Red Line to Tower City and take the 22 bus route from Superior Avenue and West 3rd Street to Lorain Avenue and West 44th Street. This route is expected to take about 44 minutes from campus.
