Touring Cleveland’s Coffee: Rising Star Coffee Roasters

Fall in Cleveland has arrived—and with it comes vibrant foliage, pumpkin-flavored everything and crisp weather. One way to stay warm and cozy is to treat yourself to a cup of joe—and here in Cleveland, there are plenty of places to satisfy your caffeine cravings. On Mondays in October, we’ll take you on a tour of some local coffee favorites.

Our next stop on the Cleveland coffee tour is Rising Star Coffee Roasters. Founded in 2012, Rising Star operates seven shops scattered throughout Cleveland, from Shaker Heights to Lakewood.

If you’re an admirer of traditional, bold coffee, head on over to Rising Star. You’ll find standard coffee options such as iced coffee, cold brew, drip coffee and variations of espresso (macchiatos, cortados, cappuccinos, lattes, and americanos) in addition to specialty espresso—like the Promised Land Latte, which has hints of honey and cinnamon. Or, give their seasonal fall drink a try—a Pumpkin Pie Latte with oat milk, which boasts house-made spiced pumpkin syrup.

Rising Star also offers non-coffee drinks, including hot and iced tea, matcha lattes, chai and dirty chai lattes, and hot chocolate—as well as bagels from The Cleveland Bagel Co., and, of course, bags of their coffee roasts to go.

If you don’t have time to stop in and grab a bag, consider Rising Star’s coffee subscription service—you can choose a one or two pound bag of any of their five roasts to be delivered right to your door (and you can choose the grind—so they’ve got you covered with your french press, aeropress or pour over).

Ready to try Rising Star for yourself? You’ll find their cafes on West 29th St. in Ohio City; on Madison Ave. in Lakewood; on Jefferson Ave. in Tremont; on Tuttle Road in Shaker Heights; at Lucky’s Market and at The Arcade. Their closest cafe to CWRU is on Lee Road in Cleveland Heights.

To get to the Lee Road location, take the RTA’s Red Line from campus to its Cedar Road and Lee Road stop. From there, it’s a .34 mile walk to Rising Star. In total, this route takes about 21 minutes. Or, plan your own adventure to one of their other locations—and give their Instagram a follow to stay in the know.
