Fall in Cleveland has arrived—and with it comes vibrant foliage, pumpkin-flavored everything and crisp weather. One way to stay warm and cozy is to treat yourself to a cup of joe—and here in Cleveland, there are plenty of places to satisfy your caffeine cravings. On Mondays in October, we’ll take you on a tour of some local coffee favorites.
Our final stop on the Cleveland coffee tour takes us to 27 Club Coffee in The Flats. Opened in 2020 by Cleveland native Colson Baker, known professionally as Machine Gun Kelly, the java house gets its name from the group of musicians and actors who died at 27 years old—including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. A musician and actor himself, Baker wanted to pay homage to this group of greats who passed before their time.
The 27 Club is anything but a quintessential coffee shop. The menu is extensive—they serve breakfast, espresso, smoothies, cold brew, tea, pizza, salads and wraps, as well as cocktails and wine. And, their pink and black theme carries throughout the venue—including the kitchen. They serve cinnamon rolls with pink frosting and many of the drinks are pink.
Build an espresso your way with your favorite flavor shot, or try one of their house drinks such as the Diablo Latte—espresso made with activated charcoal and accented with a purple açaí sugar rim—or the Hot Pink Smoothie, which combines dragon fruit, strawberries, bananas, agave and apple juice.
If you’re looking for fall-flavored drinks, check out their pumpkin spice cold brew with whipped cream and cinnamon; pumpkin latte; honey cinnamon latte; salted maple latte; or their Dawg Pound Latte, available on Cleveland Browns game days only.
Foodies might also appreciate their unique menu, which includes PBR Waffles—house waffles made with Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and topped with either banana ricotta cream and fresh berries, or butter and syrup—and a Turkey Pre Roll, which fuses turkey, Boursin cheese, bacon, apples, spinach, mozzarella, and Old Bay ranch.
Read enough and need to try it yourself? The 27 Club is just a 15-minute drive from campus—or you can plan your own trip using the RTA. Don’t forget to check out their Instagram for new specials.
