Thwing Study Over continues Dec. 11 as CWRU’s ultimate de-stressor

Students take a study break at last fall's Thwing Study Over.

As the end of the semester nears, students across campus are beginning their finals preparation routines, which wouldn’t be complete without the Thwing Study Over. The semiannual event—now in its sixth year—will be held this semester Dec. 11 from 8 p.m. to midnight, featuring free food, massages and more.

Some minor changes will be made to greatly improve the experience. “This year, we are really trying to expand [the event] by trying out new vendors and utilizing more of Thwing West,” said student co-chair Colin Williams. For example, organizers are adding another food line in the LGBT Center, Williams said, and the event will feature brand-new activities and restaurant partners.

First-time dining vendors this year include local favorites Melt and Mitchell’s Ice Cream, while returning restaurants such as The Cheesecake Factory, Qdoba, Pacific East Sushi and Hot Sauce Williams will be back to provide students with a pre-finals food fix.

Scheduled activities—sponsored by student organizations, university departments and companies—include free massages, card and video games, a hot chocolate bar, caricatures, giveaways and more.

And for students who just needing a quick study break before hitting the books again, Bellflower Lounge will be open as a study space.

“Case [Western Reserve] students tend to take a lot on all at once, so it’s easy for us to get caught up in the craziness of finals,” said co-chair Meredith Collier. “But it’s really important to take a little time for yourself, and Thwing Study Over … is a good chance to relax, recharge and escape the stress for a little while.”
