Three CWRU students place in Japanese speech contest

In early March, Case Western Reserve University Department of Modern Languages and Literatures lecturers Yoshiko Kishi, Aiko Ishii and Peggy Fitzgerald accompanied three student finalists to the 15th Annual Japan America Society of Central Ohio Japanese Speech Contest, held in Dublin, Ohio.

Of the nine finalists, three were from Case Western Reserve:

  • 1st Place: Peng Sun for her speech, titled “The Tenderness of Japanese”
  • 3rd Place: Adam Church for his speech, titled “The Importance of Studying Abroad in Modern Times.”
  • Judges Special Prize by the Consul-General of Japan in Detroit: Vivian Chen for her speech, titled “A Lesson from Kendo”

Finalist Douglas Oswald was unable to participate due to other commitments.
