Think Forum—”Vanguard: African American Women and the Road from Suffrage to Voting Rights”

Case Western Reserve University’s Think Forum lecture series will feature a free virtual lecture by historian Martha S. Jones, who will examine African American women’s pursuit of political power.

Jones is a historian, writer and Johns Hopkins University professor whose work examines how Black Americans have shaped the story of democracy in the United States. During this historic year celebrating the centennial of the 19th amendment, Jones will speak on the topic of “Vanguard: African American Women and the Road from Suffrage to Voting Rights.”

Jones’ recently published book, Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All, synthesizes the multi-generational work of Black women who defied both racism and sexism to fight for the ballot.

Her lecture will be presented Thursday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. The virtual event is free and open to all. More information and event registration is available online.
