The Department of Bioethics in the School of Medicine will host a launch of Patrick Pietroni’s eagerly awaited book, The Tyranny of Identity (Routledge, 2023), Friday, Oct. 20, from noon to 2 p.m. in Biomedical Research Building, Room 105.
Pietroni is an accomplished author and a leading voice in the field of bioethics. He has had a distinguished career in healthcare, including having served as personal physician to the royal family in Britain. The Tyranny of Identity challenges readers to question the role of identity in our lives, societies and ethical considerations. Pietroni’s exploration delves deep into the complexities of identity politics, ethics, and the implications for our future.
During the book launch event, Pietroni will present his insights and engage in a stimulating discussion on the themes explored in the book.

Watson Professor and chair of bioethics, and Eileen Anderson, the Anne Templeton Zimmerman, MD Professor of Bioethics, are Case Western Reserve University’s representatives to the The Darwin Centre Trust’s Darwin International Institute for the Study of Compassion, a consortium of 11 prestigious universities under the leadership of Director Pietroni.
