Do you wonder about the uses of elegance, love, nature, and religion in modern Japanese manga and anime? Come unlock the secrets to Japanese literature by studying the earliest Japanese texts. From poetry, essay, narrative, and drama we will investigate the essential aspects of Japanese culture and sensibility before the modern era (1868-) of Western influence. This class will also make extensive use of cultural artifacts on display throughout the University Circle and Cleveland areas.
