Summer Program in Undergraduate Research closes with poster session July 29

The Summer Program in Undergraduate Research (SPUR), funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, will host its 2011 Poster Session July 29 from 8:45 a.m. until noon in the BRB Atrium. Sixty undergraduate student researchers will present posters, and additional presenters are from the Heart, Lung & Blood, ACES, Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Undergraduate Student Summer Program and MHRTP programs.

The SPUR program acquaints students with all aspects of scientific research, from formulation of a question to production of a final report. Each participant is assigned to a faculty member whose research is of interest to that student. While the student’s research is expected to contribute to ongoing research in the faculty member’s laboratory, the students are encouraged to help in designing a research project. Students share in their departments’ weekly activities, such as seminars and journal clubs. All participants join in several activities that encourage interaction among all students engaged in summer research. The program culminates with this one-day poster session where students can share their results with the research community at CWRU.
