Mark Hornyak, an undergraduate student taking Japanese classes, competed in the 2020 Ohio Japanese Speech Contest online April 5. Hornyak won first place in the college-level category with his speech titled “Military Rations: The Taste of a Nation.”
Undergraduate students Yinfeng Xia and Yuhan Xia competed in the contest as well. Yinfeng Xia presented a speech titled “Japanese Language and Travel” in the advanced-level category and Yuhan Xia presented “Memorable Customs” in the college-level category.
The 20th Japan-America Society of Central Ohio Japanese Speech Contest was originally to be held in person, but it was converted to a livestream format.
