When Brit Bennett’s debut novel, The Mothers, was published in the fall of 2016, critics and readers were immediately dazzled. It was clear that an exciting new voice in fiction had arrived. Her second novel, The Vanishing Half, was an instant No. 1 New York Times bestseller and longlisted for the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction. Before publishing her novel, Bennett had already built an impressive platform as a social commentator. Her essay in Jezebel following the Ferguson riots was shared over a million times. Her work has also been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine and The Paris Review.
Bennett will speak as part of the 2020-21 William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series Thursday, April 15, from 7 to 8 p.m.
The 2020-21 William N. Skirball Writers Center Stage Series is presented by the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation and academic partner, Case Western Reserve University. CWRU students are able to attend these virtual events for free by registering on the University Events CampusGroups page.
