Tax forms can be intimidating, and tax software doesn’t necessarily make them less confusing. Income tax laws and rules can be intricate. Fortunately, some fundamental rules and principles can help you understand what taxes are all about, from the types of taxes to exempting income. 

Join the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs for a virtual workshop on U.S. income tax with guest speaker Alyssa Payton Wednesday, March 31, from noon to 1:30 p.m. 

After attending the “Understanding the Basics of U.S. Income Tax,” attendees will have a better grasp on:

  • Why to file taxes
  • Requirements to file and what the benefits are;
  • The difference between W-4 & W-2 forms;
  • Their filing status;
  • Social security number vs. ITIN;
  • Income tax credit vs. deduction; and
  • How and where to file taxes.
