The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will host David Rothenberg, associate professor and chair of the Department of Music, for a discussion titled “The Origins of Music at Notre Dame of Paris.” The discussion, part of the Eastside Conversations series, will be held Friday, Nov. 15, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Landmark Centre Building, Suite 100 (25700 Science Park Dr., Beachwood).
Rothenberg will discuss musical developments at the cathedral of Notre Dame of Paris at the time of its construction in the late 12th and early 13th Centuries that set the stage for much of what made the Western musical tradition distinctive in subsequent centuries. Attendees will learn about the composers Leonin and Perotin and their influence.
The event costs $22 for Lifelong Learning members, and $27 for nonmembers.
