“The Making of a Career: Mentoring and Serendipity”

“The Making of a Career: Mentoring and Serendipity” AprilApr 08 2021 07:00pm - 08:00pm

Building a career–and a life–beyond Case Western Reserve University will take you down many roads. Opportunities will arise that may be unforeseen or spontaneous. Sometimes the way will be smooth, and sometimes it may be quite bumpy. An important part of the journey is the people you meet along the way who have the experience to assist you in achieving your goals. A mentor is like a supportive coach who challenges you to meet your own expectations—or expectations far beyond what you imagined. They may also help you realize that during the long journey, sometimes failure can be your best teacher and unexpected events can change your life for the better.

Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Education will host a session titled “The Making of a Career: Mentoring and Serendipity” April 8 at 7 p.m.

It will feature:

  • Jeffrey E. Saffitz (ADL ’71, GRS ’71, GRS ’77, MED ’78) , chief of pathology at Harvard University;
  • Joy K. Ward, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences;
  • Neil Ursic (CWR ‘08), partner at RKCA Investment Banking; and
  • Hilary Mohs (CWR ‘12), director of product management at First Stop Health.

They will provide real examples of how having a mentor and being a mentor has enriched their lives and their own career journeys.
