Political strategist, professor and author Donna Brazile is this spring’s national speaker for the Power of Diversity Lecture Series, sponsored by the Office for Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity. Brazile will present a virtual lecture titled “Women in Congress and their Impact on U.S. Politics” Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 4:30 p.m. She is expected to discuss the increase in the number of women in Congress and their potential impact on politics. Her lecture is part of the events being held on campus to celebrate Black History Month.

Brazile is the former chair of the Democratic National Committee and former news contributor for Fox News, ABC News and CNN. She is the author of the 2004 best-selling memoir Cooking with Grease: Stirring the Pot in American Politics and co-author of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and Howard University.

Brazile has received numerous honors and awards, including the W.E.B Du Bois Medal, Harvard University’s highest honor in African American Studies; and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s highest award for political achievement.

About the series

For more than a decade, the lecture series has inspired campus dialogue, community engagement and collective reflection on the narrative of national diversity and inclusion issues. One of the office’s signature programs, the series is publicly recognized on and off campus each year as more than 400 campus constituents, business and community leaders and local residents attend the lectures. 

The lecture series seeks to educate and enlighten individuals on the topics of inclusion, equity and diversity and provides a platform for diverse perspectives and viewpoints. Power of Diversity hosts lectures annually by distinguished national thought leaders, CWRU faculty and members of the CWRU staff or administration.
