Why worry about how astronauts respond to the spaceflight environment? What are the critical aspects of spaceflight that impact astronauts’ health and performance? What can we do to mitigate these impacts?
These are just some of NASA’s Human Research Program’s (HRP) challenges. In this month’s Science Café Cleveland will feature scientist Jerry Myers, project scientist at the NASA Glenn Research Center. Myers will introduce the HRP, and, more specifically, the NASA Human Research Roadmap. The Human Research Roadmap outlines the top risks impeding successful long-duration spaceflight missions that return astronauts to Earth, with minimal risk of lifetime increase in future disease susceptibility.
Myers will address how research informs the development of countermeasures and space-specific medical practices, as well as how Cleveland’s own NASA John H. Glenn Research Center contributes to these efforts. This virtual event, titled “NASA’s Human Research Roadmap: Maintaining Astronaut Health,” will be held Monday, March 8, at 7 p.m. Visit the Facebook event page for the Zoom information.
