Join the Association for Continuing Education (ACE) for a lunch and lecture program featuring Ronald Conlon, associate professor in the Department of Genetics and Genome Sciences, and Insoo Hyun, professor of bioethics and philosophy. They will present “Gene Editing with CRISPR: Medical Miracle and Ethical Dilemma” Oct. 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Twenty years after the sequencing of the human genome, medical researchers now propose to edit human genomes to correct genetic disease. How will they do so? And what limits should we place on this technology?
These distinguished speakers will address the advantages of CRISPR and its drawbacks, in a talk intended for non-scientists. They will discuss the future of this therapy in such genetic diseases as sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and other genetic diseases.
ACE Lecture Day will be moderated by Audrey Lynn, project manager in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences.
