Degree: Full-time MBA
Year: First year
Though her first semester as a master’s student at Weatherhead School of Management was spent at home in India due to COVID-19 restrictions, first-year MBA student Ekta Khurana had her sights set on the future.
After 10 years of industry experience in finance, Khurana knew she wanted to earn an MBA to gain a more holistic approach to her field and new managerial skills. Weatherhead’s small class sizes, dedicated faculty members, and Career Development and Placement Office made their program a clear fit, and Khurana quickly found her place at the school thanks to the personalized career coaching she’s received.
“I completely focused on attending the spring semester in person,” said Khurana, who arrived on campus in January. “I would like to [applaud] my entire faculty from the fall semester who made the remote experience so enjoyable. However, it feels great to meet my cohort and my professors now in person and make the most of my time in Cleveland.”
Now, she’s using the skills she’s acquiring to lead student clubs and start new initiatives within Weatherhead. Khurana serves as the vice president of the Weatherhead Women in Business Club, vice president for the Weatherhead Marketing Club, and is the president-elect for the Weatherhead Marketing Club next year.
“I believe clubs are a way to express an individual’s potential and interest in the most fun and interactive manner,” Khurana said. “As vice president and president [in these clubs], I aspire to make both clubs well-aligned with industry trends so that students can use the skills gained in the future.”
When she’s not managing events and networking opportunities in her leadership roles, Khurana has been co-hosting an upcoming podcast titled What Really Matters. Produced in tandem with the admissions team at Weatherhead, the podcast will explore topics in business to get to the heart of issues in today’s world and help listeners discover why and how these issues impact different industries. Khurana, along with her co-host Alyssa Marynowski, a recruitment manager at Weatherhead, will interview professors, alumni and experts from various fields to share their insights.
Although her plate already seems full, Khurana hasn’t ruled out additional ways to get involved on campus during her time in the MBA program.
“I was amazed by the plethora of opportunities that Case [Western Reserve] and Weatherhead provides for students,” she said. “I would like to be a part of more initiatives and explore more opportunities while at Weatherhead. I would love to be a part of the program that promotes Case [Western Reserve] and Weatherhead at a global level.”
