What’s your favorite thing about CWRU?
My favorite thing about CWRU is all of the amazing professors I’ve had. I’ve taken many different kinds of classes in the humanities at CWRU and I am always impressed by how my professors require us to think so creatively.
About Sorgatz
When Aleksa Sorgatz was applying for admission to college, she relied heavily on the resources her alma mater, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in the Chicago Public School system, offered to help her build a standout application. Last fall, when the 2019 Chicago Teacher Strike occurred just before early action and early decision deadlines, Sorgatz, now a third-year student, recognized the challenges seniors would face without access to those same resources. So she decided to give them support by setting up a “virtual writing center,” connecting students from Chicago Public Schools to college students who could proofread their essays and help them feel better prepared for the application process.
“Everyone wanted to help these students and I think that was very powerful. It showed me that the people of Chicago care deeply for their teachers and students and will do anything they can to help them succeed,” she said.
