A solar eclipse will be visible across the United States Monday, Aug. 21. While Cleveland won’t be in the path of the total eclipse, a partial eclipse will be visible.
The Department of Astronomy will host a Solar Eclipse Party in front of Kelvin Smith Library with a telescope and many pairs of eclipse glasses to view the sun. Additionally, the department will open the telescope on the roof of A.W. Smith Building to give the university community the chance to view the eclipse via telescope projection.
Faculty, staff and students from the Department of Astronomy will be at both locations to answer questions.
Though the time of the eclipse varies based on where you view it across the country, in Cleveland, it will begin at 1:06 p.m. and grow until maximum eclipse at 2:31 p.m. It will end at 3:51 p.m.
Those viewing the eclipse on their own should never stare directly at the sun.
