Sociology’s Brian Gran spoke at the Kazakhstan-U.S. Convention

Brian Gran, professor of sociology and law, was one of the featured speakers at the Kazakhstan-U.S. Convention, an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The convention was held Dec. 3 in Washington, D.C., and covered a wide range of topics including economic security and diplomatic relations. As part of the Jefferson Science Fellowship (JSF), Gran participated in a Zoom session with Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and discussed ideas for the JSF program and the contributions it can make to U.S. Department of State and USAID.

The last point the secretary made was in response to Gran’s statement regarding the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Department of State. Gran had stated: “… As JSFellows, we are bringing our experiences back to the classroom. It is my hope that I will encourage CWRU students to pursue opportunities with the State Department and USAID.”
