Case Western Reserve University undergraduate students are invited to register by March 24 to participate in the RFB Programming Competition, with the chance to win up to $50,000.
Details and instructions:
- All active Case Western Reserve University undergraduate students are eligible, regardless of major. CWRU ID required.
- Register by March 24 to receive instructions for the qualifying round.
- The qualifying round begins Monday, March 24, and concludes at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.
- Contestants must solve several programming problems, ranging from easy to difficult, to qualify for finals.
- Finalists will compete on April 12 in the Nord Hall computer lab (Room 415) for a chance to win one of two cash prizes: $50,000 for first place and $25,000 for second place.
- Cash prizes are subject to federal and state regulations and may be taxable. Winning students will receive relevant information and resources.

Known as the founder of Gmail, Paul Buchheit (CWR ’98; GRS ’98, computer engineering; HON ’12) is a computer engineer and entrepreneur with extensive experience in the technology industry. He has generously sponsored the RFB Programming Competition through Case School of Engineering in memory of his father, Bob.
Robert F. Buchheit (1938–2021) was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He spent the majority of his career at the Xerox Corporation in Webster, New York, until his retirement in 2005.
