The Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will host two fall 2015 kick-off events Wednesday, Aug. 26 at the Siegal Facility in Beachwood (26500 Shaker Blvd.)

The fall kick-off lecture will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with special guest Aviya Kushner, associate professor of creative writing at Columbia College Chicago. Kushner will present “The Grammar of God: Journey into the Words and Worlds of the Bible.”

Having grown up reading the Bible in the original Hebrew, when Kushner first began reading the English translations, she realized there were many differences in the text. In her lecture, Kushner will examine the Bible from both the original Hebrew and the English translations.

Earlier that same day, Jeff Heinen, co-president of Heinen’s Fine Foods, will give a presentation on “Heinen’s Vision, Passion and People Deliver a Unique Shopping Experience” from noon to 1:30 p.m. The fee to attend is $20, which includes lunch. Registration for the event is available online.
