Crain’s Cleveland Business: A new report from the Greater Cleveland Partnership found that, as of 2021, there was nearly $4 billion in research and development (R&D) expenditures in the Greater Cleveland area. Case Western Reserve led for academic R&D spending with $422 million. Michael Oakes, senior vice president for research and technology management, said success is about breaking down silos to make the region more competitive. “Knowing more about the market means that companies can work together or it can create a more competitive atmosphere, much like two basketball players pushing each other to play better,”  he said.
