Second Gender, Youth and Social Justice event to feature author Elaine Richardson

Gender, Youth and Social Justice event flyerAuthor Elaine Richardson will present “From PHD to Ph.D.,” at the second Gender, Youth and Social Justice Event: A Journey through Juvenile Justice, Policy and Education on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center, Senior Classroom.

Her presentation will illustrate traumatic events that can lead girls into the juvenile justice system and dangerous lifestyles.

Richardson’s story takes the audience from the streets of Cleveland through her undergraduate and graduate experiences to earning a PhD. Her inspirational life and narrative account represent the triumph of the human spirit and the indomitable will to survive—and thrive.

She has become an award-winning scholar and champion of the African American quest for literacy and freedom.

A panel discussion featuring Gabriella Celeste, child policy director at the Schubert Center for Child Studies, and Revolution Planner Maria Miranda will follow Richardson’s presentation.

The event is co-sponsored by the Social Justice Institute, the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, the Case Western Reserve School of Law, the U.S. District Court, N.D. Ohio Attorney Admissions Fund and the Schubert Center for Child Studies.
