The Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Northern Ohio will host a Science Cafe event on the topic of “Rural Health” Thursday, Aug. 8, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
Fredrick Schumacher, associate professor in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences and co-leader of the Population and Cancer Prevention Program at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, will be the featured speaker.
During this seminar, Schumacher will discuss working with community partners in a rural setting, including health departments, community activists, state and national offices, other academic centers, and the community. The context of this research study, “Healthy Futures Research Study: Linking somatic mutation rate with baseline exposure in East Palestine, in a rural community establishes the baseline for chemical exposures, and provides new ones using a novel genomic biomarker as a surrogate for direct chemical concentration levels given the mixture of potential contaminants.
