CWRU, UH researchers’ discovery behind first approved stool DNA colorectal cancer screening test
The Plain Dealer: Sanford Markowitz, professor of hematology/oncology, discussed a stool-based colorectal screening test for which he led the development more than a decade ago. The test recently became the first of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration. “We were the first to discover that we could detect colorectal cancer in methylated DNA in stool of colon cancer patients,” he said.
