School of Medicine’s Alexandre Rotta discusses study on pediatric deaths on flights

New research characterizes in-flight pediatric deaths: 90% of deaths in children under age 2
Science DailyAlexandre Rotta, professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine, discusses a study that shows lap infants may be at greater risk for death on a commercial airline flight after analyzing medical emergencies involving children (newborn to 18 years old) over a three-year period. “The pattern we identified in our analysis is intriguing and could indicate lap infants are at greater risk of death related to in-flight environmental factors such as sleeping arrangements,” Rotta said.
