Sarah de Swart, the associate director of the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education, and William Doll, part-time lecturer of English and SAGES instructor, completed their 251st public speaking workshop for SAGES students Nov. 19. Nearly 4,400 Case Western Reserve University students have taken the workshops since 2009.
In the workshops, students learn how to analyze a talk or speech they will give and how to prepare and deliver it to help them have successful experiences with job interviews, presenting to co-workers, selling their ideas and presenting oneself all through one’s life.
Peter Whiting, director of SAGES and associate professor of geological sciences, began the workshops to complement the SAGES public speaking primer, SPEAK: How to Talk to Classmates and Others, which Doll wrote and Oxford University Press published in 2014.
