SAGES instructor Luke Reader writes op-ed on underlying reasons for Brexit

Luke Reader, SAGES instructor, wrote an op-ed for History News Network about the underlying reasons Britain voted to leave the European Union.

While immigration has been cited as a major reason for “Brexit,” Reader contends it’s only one component of a larger issue.

He wrote about how, as evidenced by the post-Brexit electoral map, many regions that voted heavily to leave the European Union have been plagued by economic hardships.

Reader argued that historians should look more to where those hardships originated in order to get a better understanding of Brexit’s roots.
