Spring break (March 11–15) is a time for Case Western Reserve University students to step away from their books and get some much-needed rest—whether heading home, taking a trip or remaining on campus.
No matter where you will spend your spring break, there are important safety considerations to keep in mind.
We checked in with the Division of Public Safety for a few recommendations.
If leaving campus over break:
- Take items of value home. If you’re unable to take your valuable items home, ensure they are secure in your room.
- Do not leave money, ID or credit cards in your room. Don’t keep large amounts of cash in your room. Keep your money in the bank and withdraw it just before you need it.
- Document your devices. Record serial numbers of desktop computers, laptops, mobile phones and other items that could be stolen. If these items are recovered, it is easier to return them to you.
- Lock all doors and windows: The first line of defense to a possible break-in is locking your doors and windows.
- Report what’s missing: When returning from break, if something is missing, call campus police immediately at 216.368.3300.
Remaining on campus? The university’s safety resources still will be available to you: For example, the Division of Public Safety will maintain regular operations, and Safe Ride and shuttle services will run throughout break.
As always, if you need support, you have access to a wide range of resources across the university, including:
