RTA conducting maintenance on airport’s rapid station, affecting travel beginning Nov. 27

Flying out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport this holiday season? Students, faculty and staff riding the RTA Red Line to the airport should allow extra time for their travels. RTA is making $10 million worth of improvements to the Red Line tunnel under the airport, and the tunnel will be closed from Nov. 27 until spring 2013.

During the shutdown, RTA will operate bus service from the Brookpark Station to the limousine staging area, near the airport terminal. Look for buses with destination signs that read “Red Line.” Bus service is coordinated with the rail schedule and will operate every 15 to 20 minutes.

RTA is working to restore and improve the tunnel’s drainage, track, structure, ventilation and safety systems. They hope to finish the project before two major events in 2013—the National Senior Games and the opening of the Convention Center & Medical Mart—greatly increase the number of passengers using the tunnel daily.
