The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards regularly reviews and updates the Student Code of Conduct, which conveys the policies, values, beliefs, standards and expectations for the CWRU community.
In a message to students on Aug. 14, Dean of Students Greg Harris outlined several important updates to the Student Code of Conduct our community should be aware of:
Recreational marijuana
While Ohio law permits recreational marijuana usage for those over 21, Case Western Reserve, as a federally funded institution, must follow federal law. Any possession or use of marijuana remains prohibited on university property.
Misrepresentation with artificial intelligence
Unauthorized use of generative AI tools in materials submitted to the university for administrative purposes is prohibited.
Student organization accountability
Language has been strengthened to clarify that the Student Code of Conduct applies to student organizations as well as individual students.
Conduct process updates
- The conduct hearing process may be expedited in exceptional circumstances with university-wide impact.
- Conduct cases that may lead to disciplinary probation may be resolved through the administrative hearing process.
- The university may petition to appeal hearing outcomes.
Undergraduate, graduate and professional students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Student Code of Conduct, as it is the responsibility of every CWRU student to understand and comply with the policies, protocols and requirements set forth by the university.
