Review information related to benefit impact from the ending public health emergency

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) declared, under Section 319 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, the federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19, will expire at the end of the day on May 11.

Requirements to cover COVID-19 over-the-counter tests without cost sharing will end; however, the university will continue to cover COVID-19 test kits without cost to faculty and staff participating in a Benelect plan. Coverage will include a maximum of four tests per month, with no more than three tests purchased within a 48-hour (two-day) period.

COVID-19 vaccines also will continue to be offered at a $0 cost share. Please keep in mind, as always, vaccines received from an out-of-network provider are subject to out-of-network charges, i.e. members with no out-of-network coverage will be responsible for the full cost of the service.

Treatment for COVID-19 will be covered as medically necessary and subject to member cost sharing. COVID-19 oral antivirals, including Paxlovid, purchased by the federal government, will remain free to everyone until the national supply runs out.
