Several researchers from the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering and Physics published a paper titled “Role of the different defects, their population and distribution in the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterostructure’s behavior.” The paper, published in the Journal of Applied Physics, has been chosen as an editor’s pick.
The researchers affiliated with Case Western Reserve University are:
- Walter Lambrecht, professor of physics;
- Xuan Gao, associate professor of physics;
- Alp Sehirlioglu, assistant professor of materials science and engineering; and
- Richard Akrobetu, former graduate researcher.
The paper was co-authored by these researchers and others from several French institutions.
The paper is a comprehensive model of the interfacial behavior of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterostructure that show unique properties, including tunable conductivity that can lead to oxide-based transistors.
