WOIOBrian Clites, assistant professor of religious studies at the College of Arts and Sciences, discussed new Catholic Diocese of Cleveland policies that bar students, faculty and staff from outwardly identifying as LGBTQ+, requesting preferred pronouns or dressing in a way that matches their LGBTQ+ identity, or publicly advocating for celebrating pride on school property. “I’m not surprised this came out,” he said. “It does stand out as an outlier … It’s a trend, mostly in rural areas, and it’s most popular in red states.”
